Slimeservers Today

In the shadowy economy of cybercrime, not all command-and-control (C2) servers are created equal. Alongside sophisticated, heavily obfuscated infrastructures used by state-sponsored actors and ransomware gangs exists a quieter, more insidious category: SlimeServers . What is a SlimeServer? The term “SlimeServer” (often used in threat intelligence and malware analysis circles) refers to a low-cost, ephemeral, and often poorly configured malicious server—typically a Virtual Private Server (VPS) or a compromised dedicated server—used to host malware payloads, exfiltrate data, or relay C2 traffic. The “slime” connotes its disposable, adaptable, and somewhat “messy” nature: these servers are rarely hardened, often run outdated software, and are abandoned as quickly as they are deployed.
