If you use Plex , Jellyfin , or Emby , h265 is the future. Most modern devices (iPhone 8+, 4K Firesticks, Apple TV 4K, and Shield TV) play h265 natively. This means your server doesn't have to "transcode" (work hard), saving your CPU/GPU for other tasks.
